Prezygotic Reproductive Isolation

Another prezygotic reproductive barrier was determined when observing the behavior for each of the populations during courtship. Both populations have a slightly different ritual. The individuals from the Nevis population often have a longer courtship ritual, which deters most of the St. Kitts individuals from mating with them. Out of the 240 attempts to crossbreed, only 60 of the attempts were between male Nevis rodents and female St.Kitts rodents. About 90 of the attempts were between female Nevis rodents and male St.Kitts rodents. The other 90 (30 female Nevis/male St.Kitts, 60 male Nevis/female St.Kitts) attempts reflected loss of interest between the individuals while crossbreeding because of the duration of courtship.
